Video: Luckily This One’s on Film, But Think Twice Before You Valet

Those of us that live in more urban locations are very familiar with the concept of using a valet parking service. We normally view it as a convenience and at least know that are beloved cars will not be parked next to a careless driver who ends up putting a scratch or dent in our car or worse yet running into them.

While most valet drivers treat the cars well, there are always a few that don’t or have momentary lapses in judgement. In this case the owner of a new Corvette Stingray trusted this valet driver to care for his car and treat it with the respect that it deserves. As you can see in the film, he chose not to do so and thanks to Chevrolet’s onboard camera system activated in “Valet Mode” this driver’s actions were caught on camera.

Well we are certainly not attorneys and while the laws to vary from state to state, the general consensus we gathered was sort of a, “my car, my rules” attitude in that the owners should be allowed to monitor their personal property.

After coming to a stop, and seemingly trying to launch the car, he ultimately hits 50 mph, not exactly a safe speed for a parking garage and certainly not what you need to be doing with another person’s vehicle.

While the tachometer would indicate he wiffed the throttle, and didn’t achieve maximum velocity he still got some good rpm out of the motor. He then short shifted and after seeing an oncoming car, he quickly pulls into an open space. We’ll assume he was worried that the other driver would notice him and in his haste may have pulled the car in just a little too far. As those of us who have owned Corvettes know, there is a lot of car in front of the driver compared to a typical vehicle and he may have misjudged.

While it is unknown as to whether or not he tapped the front bumper against the wall, we are assuming this was the case as you can see below where he exited the vehicle to look down at the front. For the owner’s sake we certainly hope this isn’t the case forcing him to have the entire bumper repainted to its original condition.

Lastly, the Corvette Online consensus was that this valet should certainly be fired and hopefully moves forward with a new occupation. We know it’s tempting to drive that way, especially in a vehicle with such monstrous power on tap. Furthermore the valet driver looks to be pretty young, and we do remember what it was like at that age, and sure every one of us made some decisions that we are less then proud of. The import thing is that he learns from this and hopefully others will learn from his mistake as well.
