Why do men make the perilous journey to the top of the world’s tallest mountain, Mt. Everest? Because it’s there, that’s why. The same philosophy can be applied to many of mankind’s other ventures, from skydiving to motorsports, and in the motorsports world few activities seem as insane and pointless as hillclimbing.
But hillclimbing is, in fact, a motorsport of passion by its principle players, and people will dump upwards of $100,000 into hardcore hillclimbing machines. These powerful vehicles can make even the steepest grade look like a stroll in the park…but watch out for that tree.
This video shows one of the more popular hill climbers, Jordan Tanner, rocketing up a hill in his ColeWorx Screamin’ Buggy II.
Powered by a 600 horsepower 434 cubic-inch Chevy small block, the Screamin’ II lives up to its name, blasting up the hill with a deafening roar. It’s a fearsome machine, make no doubt…though it wasn’t exactly designed for big-air jumps.
But that is exactly what Tanner got on this run; big air, straight into a tree trunk.
He gooses the gas and lunges over the ground and straight into a tree, bouncing back and going forward again like nothing happened. Tanner’s buggy seems nigh-unstoppable…and maybe these hillclimbers are onto something. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun if you ask us.
