Everyone loves to see a classic musclecar hang it’s front wheels in the air, but almost no one wants to see a classic Chevelle get damaged. You just have to be a little “off” if you like that sort of thing.
We found a video on powernationtv.com that shows that exact scenario play out. The video shows a beautiful copper brownish Chevelle, that the film crew declares is an “8-second” Chevelle, do two passes that barely lift the front end at all. After the next smokey burn out in the water box, this Chevelle starts to show that it can pull the nose up with the best of them with a bouncy launch and quick pass down the lane.
The next two runs are very respectable, with both hanging the tires a decent way down the track.
Finally, the final run, on the juice, is a little wonky on the start. From a quick stage and light to an ultra bouncy launch, this run had disaster written all over it. You can see the car hit it’s zenith and almost stall. That causes the front end to slam down on the asphalt at a rate too much for the front suspension. After striking the asphalt, the nose bounces back up in the air and slams back on the track again.
The result? A cracked oil pan, a great YouTube video and thousands of people shaking their heads at seeing this beauty pounded on the track. According to the notes on the video, “Luckily the damage could have been worse. Heading back for mid 8sec passes soon.”
We can’t wait.
