It might not look like much, but the cones that outline the Autocross course at the 2011 PPG Good Guys Nationals will put a car to it’s absolute test. An autocross course is designed to test not only driver but also the car’s capabilities. It tests every aspect of the car’s handling characteristics. You’ve got to be able to handle weight transfer, braking, getting the power to the ground, and doing it all over again in each corner. Make one mistake and your time is ruined.
Recently at the 14th Annual Good Guys Nationals in Columbus Ohio, Brandy Morrow of Spectre Performance took to the course in the Spectre Performance ’70 Camaro to compete in the vendor class. Right out of the gate everyone knew it was going to be a great lap. The Camaro handled all the turns with ease and Brandy laid down an astonishing lap of 32.622. She won the class easily and in fact her time was 2 tenths of a second faster then the next closest vendor in her class.
What’s more impressive is her time was the third fastest time out of everyone that competed on the track that day. Which was a total of almost 100 vehicles.
In other words, if you have ever wondered how to drive autocross better, you might want to take notes from the on-board video that starts halfway through the video. This was her second event win and first at the Good Guys Nationals. There’s no doubt about it, the woman knows how to attack an autocross course!
