The Winter Test at Sebring [5] took place on Thursday, February 20th and Friday the 21st, with 42 cars taking part in the TUDOR United Sports Car [6] sessions and 28 cars posting meaningful times in the Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge [7] sessions. Compared with 2013, when about 20 cars turned up for the ALMS Sebring Winter Test, this shows how much more interest there is in the new series. In the TUSC there were four Corvette DP cars taking part, and the Action Express [8] #5 car topped the overall timings for the four sessions run over the two days.

In the GTLM Class, both of the Corvette C7.R cars were entered; however, the two Porsche 911 RSRs topped the timings and these were the only cars in the GTLM Class to dip below the 2 minute mark. Corvette Racing [10] got in a lot of laps, although an unscheduled engine change was required for the #3 car after its early retirement from the second session on the Thursday afternoon. It ran again untroubled during both of the Friday sessions. The #3 Corvette C7.R posted a combined best lap time set during session 2 of 2:00.580, and the #4 Corvette C7.R set a best combined time of 2:01.000, also during session 2.

Testing is just that and therefore comparing the times is a bit meaningless, as you really have no idea what fuel loads the cars are carrying or the other settings they are testing or running during any of the sessions. Suffice to say the Corvettes will be competitive at Sebring, but to my mind the Porsches will be the cars to beat.
