Chevrolet’s SS is a captive import of the very popular Holden VF, a staple in the full-size auto market in Australia. Based on the GM Zeta platform with some alterations, the VF model is a direct evolution of the performance minded VE model. Sold in the US as the Chevrolet SS, Chevrolet was quick to promote the sedan as its performance model in NASCAR. The vehicle was actually unveiled during Speedweeks in Daytona Beach in 2013.

Equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 LT1 engine made popular in the Chevrolet Covettes. A six-speed automatic transmission is mounted behind the LT1 and actuated manually using paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Power and performance is the focus in the Chevrolet SS.

Fitting between the Malibu and Impala in the Chevy lineup, the SS is the first rear-wheel drive V8 sedan since the Chevrolet Caprice, 17-years earlier.

Since its launch in 2014, the SS has become Chevrolet’s flagship sedan, which makes it the primary platform for new features. GM’s auto-park assist, a blind-spot monitoring system, a lane departure warning system and electronic power steering are some of the technological features that have been promoted in the vehicle.

The SS’s list of standard features includes 19-inch wheels, high-performance tires, a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, xenon headlights, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated eight-way power front seats and leather upholstery.

The Chevrolet SS has become Chevy’s performance model in NASCAR’s top series.
