The “See The USA In Your Chevrolet,” is best known for the long association with the Dinah Shore Show from the early 50s to the early 60s. It became her signature song to a new generation of Americans whose lives centered around a new device called the television.
Despite becoming popular in the next decade, the jingle was actually written and performed initially in 1949 by Leo Corday and Leon Carr. Carr was known for his marketing jingles like “See The USA In Your Chevrolet,” and Mounds candy bar “Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut,” but he also had a very successful non-jingle career with musicians like Brook Benton, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, Patti Page and Bobby Vinton recording versions of his songs.
The “See The USA” jingle was originally performed by the husband and wife team, Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healy years prior to Dinah Shore making it popular.
Once Chevrolet began to sponsor Pat Boone’s television show, “The Pat Boone-Chevy Showroom,” Boone covered the jingle from 1957 through 1960. Realizing that Chevy had a hit marketing campaign, the jingle made its way into commercials featured during the Los Angeles Dodgers televised games in the 1960s. The jingle was covered by John Roseboro and Don Drysdale, players from the hometown Dodgers.
Chevrolet brought this classic back as a super bowl ad during the game on February 6, 2011. The cast of the TV show Glee starred in the commercial.
