Throwback Thursday: We Look Back At The Camaro

3camThe Camaro has always been known as America’s pony car—at least in this author’s mind, and is surely the car that many young boys all over this great nation have dreamed about owning. It doesn’t matter what the generation, the Camaro is the stuff that dreams are made of. What’s more, Mustang guys hate it—how could it get any better?

So, our Throwback Thursday for this week takes a look at the Chevrolet Camaro.

First Generation – 1967 through 1969

The first-generation Camaro is regarded by many as one of the best-looking cars of the ‘60s. It is low-slung and muscular, and not too flashy. Some would say that the car is all business. Especially if you ordered a ZL1.

Second Generation – 1970(1/2) through 1981

The 1970 ½ Camaro was an extreme departure from the previous design. With some European influence, designers developed a car that screamed “muscle.” You definitely can’t confuse it with a first-generation car. But even so, it is all Camaro, matter how you look at it.

Third Generation – 1982 through 1992

Talk about a design change! The third-generation Camaro is and always will be a symbol of the 80s. The design was a huge change from the previous generations, they were undeniably influenced by European designs. But the third-generation is an all-American design with its front end styling that was purported to enhance down force. It is easy to see the design plan by noticing the racing-inspired ground effects. The 1982 Camaro was the first Camaro to be available with a hatchback.

Fourth Generation – 1993 through 2002

When the fourth-generation model hit dealership floors, it was readily apparent that Chevrolet went for a revolutionary look. Even at more than 20-years old, the fourth-generation epitomizes “sleek.” Everything from the steeply-raked windshield to the strong wedge shape of the overall car, it still looks like it’s moving even when parked.
