1965 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE 3-Time Top Flight Winner, Well Documented
When the mechanically fuel-injected 327 CI small-block Corvette made its swan song in 1965, Corvette had really started to come into its own. By the mid Sixties, there were engine choices galore and numerous milestones to be achieved, including the introduction of the mighty 396 CI big-block engine and 4-wheel disc brakes.
While there are many rare and special Corvettes, some more so than others, the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible offered here is a one-of-one. A highly original fuelie, this Corvette’s list of factory options puts it in a different league from other examples to leave the factory that year. Ordered with radio delete and one of only 316 equipped with drum brakes, this ’65 Corvette boasts only a single repaint, one newer door panel and new carpeting, essentially presenting as it did when it left St. Louis just more than 50 years ago.
This fuelie represents the pinnacle of Corvette performance in 1965, and the documentation it comes with is nothing sort of impressive, including the original window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, invoice and dealer write-up, as well as an NCRS shipping report and CCAS engine certification. A 3-time NCRS Top Flight award winner, it’s not often that Corvettes of this caliber end up for sale; as such, it presents an excellent opportunity to add one to any collection.

What sets this big-block boulevard cruiser apart from its peers from the 1967 model year is that this Corvette is the only known 427/400 HP big block example equipped with a Powerglide transmission, factory air conditioning and radio delete option to ever leave the factory. One and done!
And if that’s not enticing enough, when finally found, this ’67 fastback had been sitting in a garage for more than 35 years, resting and preserved in the condition it was the day it was parked with only a believed-correct 9,523 miles showing on the odometer. After its second owner—who barely drove it—purchased it in 1973, the Rally Red car with a matching-numbers 427/400 HP big-block engine was repainted in lacquer, and its chassis was restored to show quality in the 1970s before it would be parked for the decades to come.
Its original, mint-condition interior in black features headrests, shoulder belts, a telescopic steering wheel, a transistor ignition and the aforementioned factory air conditioning. With no evidence of any body damage, every attention to detail was carefully adhered to with this car to preserve its integrity. Sold with an NCRS-validated tank sticker, this fully loaded, one-of-one ’67 Corvette Fastback Coupe would make an excellent addition to any collection.

This stunning Tuxedo Black Corvette spent much of its life in Southern California where a meticulous ground-up restoration was performed and later sold to an enthusiast in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Chevrolet’s second-generation Corvette reached the height of its power in 1967 with the introduction of the L71 427/435 HP Tri-Power big-block V-8 engine. With the obvious exception of the racing-purposed L88, the L71 was the most powerful engine ever planted in Corvette’s engine compartment to that time. Feeding the beast was a trio of Holley 2-barrel carburetors linked together progressively to produce power all the way to its 6,500 RPM redline.
Underrated at 435 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque, the L71 was part of a complete option package that included transistorized ignition, F41 heavy-duty suspension, heavy-duty cooling, a close-ratio 4-speed and hardened rear axles and u-joints. Freshly restored, this 1967 Corvette convertible is running the 427/435 HP L71 and wraps it in one of the most appealing and sought-after Corvette color combinations: Tuxedo Black with a red Stinger and a matching red leather interior.
Optioned with a 3.70:1 Positraction rear end, power steering and power disc brakes, side exhaust, bolt-on finned-aluminum wheels with redlines, teakwood steering wheel, AM/FM radio and a black top, this is the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette at its iconic best.
