Most of our barn find stories end with the seller exclaiming “it’s not for sale, quit asking!”. Or with the owner simply explaining he isn’t interested in selling as he leaves his American icon to become a derelict for mother nature to consume. As you can imagine, this leaves us fairly cynical when we go out and look for barn find stories.

The 375 Horsepower 396 power plant is capable of launching the Chevelle to 60 MPH in 6 seconds.

However, we are excited to report good news as Gena was able to successfully purchase this cherry red 1970 Chevelle SS. A survivor from the 20th Century, this machine clocked just 50,000 miles before she was parked 25 years ago in Indiana. She is an original numbers matching 396 SS and Munice 4 speed.

The Chevelle entered service in 1964 to meet growing consumer demand for midsize musclecars. The car soon became one of GM’s most popular cars of the ’60s. The Chevelle’s body was re-sculpted again in 1970 to a more sleek and aggressive appearance. It’s long front end, quad headlights and muscular edges are what pops into most people’s heads when they hear the word musclecar.

In 1970 the 396 was actually bored out to a 402 cubic inches though it still retains the 396 badging. The 396 had a power output of 350 horsepower, from the factory she was capable of 0-60 in 6 seconds flat and could pull a 14 second quarter mile. Gena plans on dragging this baby out and performing a full nut and bolt restoration. And yes, a car wash is a part of those plans.
