When two automotive legends like Bob Bondurant and Steve Saleen collaborate on a project, you know it’s going to be amazing, and that’s exactly what the SMS-Bondurant 620 Camaro was that debuted at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction last Thursday. The auction of the first example of the SMS 620 Camaro model wasn’t just about showing off the car, however. It was about raising money for some worthy charitable causes, and as we found out from Autoblog, the car’s sizeable winning bid will definitely make a big impact.
As we told you earlier in January, the SMS-Bondurant Camaro is a potent example of one of America’s finest modern muscle cars. Equipped with a SMS supercharger, Borla exhaust and Eibach S suspension system, the Camaro boasts 620 HP and 570 foot-pounds of torque. As if that wasn’t enough, the car also comes with unique features like custom SMS wheels, a red-inset butterfly hood and the signatures of the automotive greats that created it.
In addition to the car’s aesthetic and performance appeal was the appeal that all proceeds of the car’s sale would go to COX Charities and the Make a Wish Foundation of Arizona. That, added to three days at the Bondurant Performance Driving School, was plenty to drive the stakes high on this charity car auction.
With both Bondurant and Saleen on stage to introduce the car, the auction of the 620 kicked off at only $10,000. Just like most charity auctions, that number quickly climbed, however, to a respectable $100,000, where the auction ended with the drop of the hammer.
We’re glad to finally see the new SMS-Bondurant 620 Camaro out in the flesh and even happier to see its proceeds going to two worthy charitable organizations. Check out video of the car’s Barrett-Jackson debut above.
