Fully-documented, factory-original cars come up for sale every so often. Sure, there are different levels of “factory original,” from still maintaining the original engine to boasting nearly every original component that could have been saved on the vehicle. But no matter what level, each car is unique in its preservation of the past.
Next month, one such factory-original vehicle is set to hit the stage at Mecum’s Original Spring Classic Auction in Indianapolis, Indiana. Having only had one owner all it’s life, this 1966 Chevy II is about as factory-original as you can get without having put the car in a time capsule and sealed it up unused for the last 48 years.
Bought new in 1966 by Roger Burleson’s father, the Chevy II was a gift for Roger to celebrate his high school graduation.
Just like his older two brothers, Roger was able to pick out a brand new car and equip it just the way he liked it when his high school days were complete.
For his special gift, Roger chose the ’66 Chevy II you see here, equipped with the L79 327/350hp V8 also found in the Corvette, a Muncie 4-speed transmission, Positraction rearend with 3.73 gears, seat belts, AM radio and dual outside mirrors. To complete the look, Roger topped his car choice off with a black on black color scheme.
Throughout his ownership, Roger claims to have never drag raced (aside from a few street races) the car, nor taken it to any shows or cruise-ins. In 48 years, the car was used sparingly and only racked up 52,000 miles.
One of just 200 L79 Chevy IIs manufactured in 1966, this one-owner Nova is quite the find, but it gets even better. Set to cross the auction block on Saturday, May 17th, this car comes complete with its original engine and drivetrain, period documentation from the original title to the protect-o-plate, and even features almost all its original paint and interior. Components that were taken off the car for maintenance purposes, like the original alternator and 4-barrel Holly carburetor also come with the vehicle.
