Rendering of the 2014 C7.R Racecar From Iacoski Design

Corvette Racing is the factory-backed American Le Mans Series team that has dozens of race wins under its belt using the C6.R Corvette design, and with the release of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, Iacoski Design has taken the time to provide a rendering of what the team’s upcoming C7.R racecars might look like. Although we cannot say that this is exactly how the new car will appear, it is currently in development by Corvette Racing and their parent company, engineering firm Pratt & Miller, scheduled for a 2014 season debut. The C6.R will be seen on the track through the 2013 racing season as the team works to finalize all of the new design elements for the C7.R both in the wind tunnel and on the track.

As the design of the new Stingray pulls much of its heritage from the Corvette Racing program that has been so successful in road-course competition, we can say with relative certainty that the design touches that have made their way into the program have been solely performance-based and help the car to perform well. We’re digging the front splitter and canards that are designed to direct airflow to provide the most downforce without hampering performance on the track, and the widebody fenders in the rear are great for running the huge tires necessary in competition and cover up the expected Michelin meats we’ll see on the actual piece.

The engine will likely remain the same 5.5L LS7-based piece currently in use, in order to remain legal for competition in the road racing series. Corvette factory engineers keep a close eye on what the racing team is doing and have incorporated some of the elements of R versions into the production car – many of the design elements found in the C6.R program have in fact made their way into the Stingray program, like the carbon-fiber roof panel, vented hood, and the tilted radiator. We like it. What say you?
