We’ve been hearing for months now how Chevrolet is having one ignition switch recall after another. While all manufactures go through their phases of having recalls, General Motors has been the blunt end of a lot of Ford jokes lately with theirs.
Perhaps General Motors’ time in the hot seat is over and it’s time for Chrysler to take some heat. According to FOX news, Chrysler is recalling Jeeps for similar ignition switch issues as General Motors. This is where somebody has to sit super close to the wheel and hit the steering column with their knee, which can cause the car to shut off.
When the car is shut off, the power booster for the brakes no longer works rendering them as manual brakes, the power steering pump stops which makes the steering manual, and the air bags might not inflate. Unless you’re a super strong body builder, this might pose a big problem. Either way, it’s a dangerous problem for any car.
Almost 800,000 Jeeps have been recalled for their ignition switch issues. This is for the 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokees along with 2006-2007 Jeep Commanders. Chrysler stated that they don’t know how many ignition switches might have to be recalled, but their engineers are currently working for a fix.
Luckily for Chrysler, there has only been a report of one accident and no injuries. While it’s tragic that anybody got hurt because of the Chevy recalls, the bright side is that the issue has been brought into the light for all auto manufactures to learn from.
