In the age of technology, it is getting rarer to find kids interested in more than the internet, latest phones and video games. While they may be a bit old school, muscle cars provide more entertainment and passion than could ever be derived from the latest technology. Thanks to some parents passing on the love and knowledge of cars to their kids, rather than the latest and greatest technology, automotive culture lives on. As one Pro-Touring.com forum member Cody Eilert recently posted about, the passing of automotive enthusiasm from generation to generation can start at a very young age.
Eilert, was introduced to muscle cars at a very young age. He helped his father, Larry Eilert, do a complete frame off restoration on Larry’s ‘72 Chevelle when he was just 11 years old. The father-son pair put a 383cui stroker engine in the Chevelle as well as a Turbo 350 transmission with a 2,800 stall converter and shift kit. A 12-bolt rear end with 3.55 gears, Flowmaster exhaust, full Hotchkis rear suspension and Hotchkis front sway bar were also added to the Chevelle. It now sits on 18-inch Junk Yard Dog wheels and Falkin tires. In 2007, the Chevelle was part of the Power Tour and has also been raced at Memphis Motor Speedway by Larry.
Now at age 17, Cody takes pride in the car him and his dad built. He also has a ‘69 Chevelle waiting for him to “earn” that is still in progress. The ‘69 currently has a 496cui big block under the hood. With rear seat delete, the car is set up for the track with an 8-point cage, full race suspension and 12-bolt rear end with 3.77 gears. Although Cody doesn’t state what the remaining plans for the ‘69 are, him and his father are well on their way to creating an impressive racer.
We’re glad to see that there are still some parents passing on the enthusiasm for American muscle cars to their kids. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Cody and his ‘69 Chevelle.
