We know that you’re going to want to own this car. Heck, it’s another one that we want to have! You’re in luck though, we can’t make it to the auction. That means we won’t be there to bid against you. This 1969 Yenko Chevelle will be for sale at the Mecum auction in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on August 1^st. The story goes that on June 24, 1969, a young lady by the name of Ms. Josephine Gresko drove her 1964 Impala into Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. At the time, she was looking to trade the Impala on a new performance car. She ended up leaving the four-speed Impala on the lot, and buying this Fathom Green with White graphics and emblems Chevelle. Seven years later, she traded the Chevelle for another car at Bill Keith Auto Sales in Wexford, Pennsylvania. That’s where the current owner’s parents bought it for him. It seems that he wasn’t old enough to sign the paperwork in 1976.

The car was built at Chevrolet’s Baltimore plant, and is a well-optioned Yenko. It has the correct 15×7-inch Rally wheels and Goodyear Polyglas F70-15 tires. These came as part of COPO code 9737 (Sports Car Conversion). Because of code 9737, it also received heavy-duty sway bars. Under the hood is the numbers matching L72 427 with 425 horsepower, backed by an M21 four speed with a Hurst shifter. The car also has a bench seat with cloth interior—an option not often seen on four-speed cars. Finally, there are power front disc brakes, 4.10 gears, and a Yenko-installed Stewart-Warner tach in place.

A complete restoration was completed in 2013, and the original hand-written order form from Yenko, the GM shipping report, and the invoice from Yenko is included. This is one auction that we really wish we could get to, but our loss is your gain. Just let us know how fun the car is to drive after you win it.
