No Times, All Business: Cameron Johnson Prepares His New Camaro

Cameron Johnson has been a fixture in the Southeastern heads-up scene at many different events behind the wheel of his nitrous-fed 2005 Mustang. Now, Johnson is ready to step up to the world of big money grudge racing with a 1967 Camaro that is going to be packing some serious power. His goal is to charge into the 29-inch tire shootouts and radial tire world with this new ride and show everybody what he’s capable of.

Johnson began his heads-up racing career in 2014 in the x275 class with a big-block Chevy on a single stage of nitrous powering his Mustang. Over the next few years, Johnson competed at local races in Florida and at various Duck X Production events at SGMP until he decided that the grudge scene would be a better fit for him.

The new car that Johnson will be driving is a 1967 Camaro that has steel quarters and roof, plus some Feather Carbon parts to help bring the weight down. The car was originally built by Teddy Houser in 2010, but Johnson decided to update it at ProFab Performance with some new chassis parts and a set of Menscer Motorsports shocks.

Under the hood of the Camaro will be 903 cubic-inches of fuel-injected Pat Musi power fed five stages of nitrous oxide from a Switzer Dynamics nitrous system. Behind the big Musi engine will be an M&M Transmission Powerglide and lock-up torque converter. A Racepak dash will keep Johnson apprised of what the car’s vitals are, and a BigStuff 3 will control everything for the engine. The car was also fully wired by Jamie Hancock and Hancock will also be providing some tuning assistance.

According to Johnson, this car is the next step in his heads-up racing career. “I wanted to build this car to run at different No Time and Grudge events, I think it will also get me to the next level of racing. I’ll be running in 29-inch tire shootouts and grudge racing the car to start and then move to Pro 275 in the future,” Johnson says.

Be on the lookout for this nitrous-huffing Camaro to make its debut very soon in the grudge world!
