Malibu Monday: The Front End Tear-Down Begins

Our friends over at American Modern have sure taken on an extensive project [1], but before the real fun part of The Build can start, the crew must dismantle everything to truly get a look at all the things they’ll have to replace. So what better way to do that than to get elbow-deep in grease and start pulling all the sheet metal off the front of the car? Check out the intense process in the video [2] above.

With the ‘65 Malibu having an unfortunate run-in with a brick wall, anyone would expect to find extensive damage to the car’s front end. While looks can be deceiving, the American Modern Malibu holds true to that notion, sporting a whole mess of twisted metal up front. Luckily, some of the underlying components weren’t severely affected and can be saved along the way, but the whole front end has to go before shiny new metal can be put in it’s place.

Using a frame machine, the crew completes a rough pull of the front sheet metal, allowing them to gain access to the bolts holding the front end together. With a bit of teamwork and some muscle power, the team was then able to gain access to the front radiator, which not surprisingly will need to be replaced as well.

This is only the beginning of the project and the American Modern team has a long ways to go before they can start rebuilding their classic Chevy. So make sure to stay tuned next Monday to see the next step in the tear-down process.
