No matter how well your build project ran when you got it, it’s always a good idea to go through things to check for leaks and freshen components up if need be. On this week’s episode of The Build, that’s exactly what Claims Specialist Rick Drewry and his crew are doing. Check out their transmission teardown in the video above.
Having already completed the engine work and most of the metal work on the 1965 Malibu SS, the crew of The Build turned to the Muncie transmission this week, just to check things out. Even though the transmission was thought to be in good shape, it’s always a good idea to check things over when they’re out of the car and easier to get to.
After draining the gear oil, the crew went to work taking off the linkage assembly as well as any brackets and side plates. Once everything was removed, old leaky gaskets could be pealed off and disposed of in preparation for new gaskets.
While the transmission is apart, Drewry also explained that the crew will be doing some cleanup and painting of the gearbox to prep it for its final (hopefully) installation into the classic Chevy.
As this episode was just part one of the transmission tear-down and cleanup, we expect to see a second transmission-geared episode in the next couple of weeks. But you’ll have to check back next week to see exactly what the crew of The Build has in store for us next!
