Kansas World of Wheels Set to Feature Kansas Tech School Projects

When you think of car shows, you usually think about a bunch of really nice restored or custom cars owned by enthusiasts wanting to show off their pride and joys. While this is traditionally the case, the World of Wheels event set to take place this weekend in Kansas City, Missouri is offering show goers a little bit more, according to the Maryville Daily Forum. While you can still expect to see the custom motorcycles, classics, trucks, and hot rods, you’ll also get to see a couple vehicles that the students at Northwest Technical School in Maryville have been working to restore in class. Just because they’re the results of a class project, however, doesn’t mean that these vehicles are any less pristine than the other show cars.

The students in Ron Wiederholt’s automotive technology classes at Northwest have prepared a ‘70 Chevelle and a ‘03 S-10 for the Kansas City World of Wheels show this weekend.

Ron Wiederholt teaches students in the automotive technology classes at Northwest everything from small repair jobs to complete restoration projects to better prepare them for careers in the automotive trade

The Chevelle, one of Wiederholt’s personal cars, has been a collision repair class project for about two and a half years now and is finally ready for its show debut. Wiederholt told the Maryville Daily Forum that every bolt of the car has been taken out, cleaned and restored by his 24 students over the years. The students that make up the class are high school kids from 14 area schools as well as young adults, mostly looking to pursue automotive careers.

The S-10 has gotten just as much love as the Chevelle, becoming a class project when Northwest bought the truck after it was totaled in a wreck. The students were so dedicated to the restorations of both vehicles and finishing them for the show that they even came in during their Christmas break to finish painting the projects.

The Chevelle and the S-10 will be on display along with the rest of the show cars at the World of Wheels event this weekend. The students that worked on the vehicles will get an exclusive sneak peek at their projects on display on Friday February 10th during a special students day.

Since 2006, the World of Wheels and Autorama events have held student days all over the country to kick off their shows. At these special high school and tech school days, students get a chance to hear presentations from automotive industry leaders, talk to automotive companies about what they look for in potential team members, and walk the exhibit floor to see the amazing show-quality cars on display.

With Northwest Technical School participating in the Kansas City World of Wheels student day, the students will not only have a chance to participate in the day’s events but see the vehicles they worked so hard to complete on display before the show opens to the public.

The Kansas City World of Wheels event will take place at Bartle Hall from February 10th through the 12th. On Friday, the show will host students and teachers for the exclusive student day while Saturday and Sunday the show is open to the public. If you’re in the Kansas City area, be sure to stop by and check out the Northwest Technical School entries as well as the rest of the beautiful custom and restored rides that are sure to be on display. With only three classic Chevelles and a couple late-model trucks earning World of Wheels points so far this year, we look forward to seeing how the Northwest entries place among them.
