Sometimes we have to question the motives of others because they commit acts that are unthinkable. But thankfully, we have companies like Silver Sport Transmissions (SST) that do something good to hit you right in the feels. SST’s Misty McComas shared a story on its blog that is worth repeating.
This past May, a 49-year-old Donald Bachman was gunned down in front of his home in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and his killer is still at large. It was just days after his birthday, and there is speculation that this crime occurred because Bachman was a member of his community crime watch, and helped shut down a drug house in his neighborhood.
A member of local car clubs, Bachman was an enthusiast who loved fixing and racing his 1986 Corvette. He was loved by his neighbors and the community in general, and was a hard-working mechanic supervisor at a local bus company. His friend, Bill Feist, raced with him and planned to race Donnie’s Corvette in the STO (Super Touring Over) class road races and hill climbs.
Wanting to build up Bachman’s Corvette, Feist contacted SST in need of a Tremec T56 Magnum so that he could be more competitive. He needed a transmission that would provide short, quick shifts and would allow smooth shifts up to 7,800 rpm. Without thinking twice, the team at SST went to action and decided that they wanted to get involved, too, and provided the Tremec to Feist.
SST is constantly expanding its line of PerfectFit transmission kits, and this was another opportunity to add to their repertoire. The new shifter design that SST has developed for the T56 will provide Feist just what he needs to get the Corvette out on the track and keep the “Justice for Donnie” theme going. It’s always great to see people doing the right thing, and the people at SST wanted to do the right thing in Bachman’s honor.
Justice for Donnie was a fundraiser set up in June of this year to help the family of Donald Bachman, and to keep his love for cars alive. Justice for Donnie was organized by the members of the Keystone Underground car and truck club, and SST has truly stepped up and helped with this fundraiser by providing the transmission. Our hearts go out to the Bachman family, and hope that there truly will be Justice for Donnie when his murderer is found.
