Valvoline Motor Oil started the Reinvention Project where they teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports and all star drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson. Dale and Jimmy picked trucks of their choice to restore to their liking. Once the trucks are finished, Jimmie and Dale will compete against each other during an auto cross, burnout and drag race.
Jimmie Johnson went with a classic 1955 Chevy. The truck was a one-owner farm truck, and he loved the look of the patina. Everything on the truck was gone through, with a completely new suspension system that dropped the truck down a few inches. He knew that he wanted the truck to be able to turn. An LS3 motor was plopped into the engine compartment, making sure this truck could get up and haul.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. chose a truck that has some personal meaning to him. Junior chose a 1974 Cheyenne, because that was the year he was born. He painted it his favorite orange color as well, so he really loves this truck. A complete suspension upgrade was completed on this truck as well. Just like Jimmie, Dale chose the powerful LS3 engine to power his orange beast.
Once both trucks were completed, the drivers went head to head in three different events. The first was an autocross course which tested the handling of the trucks. From there they boiled the tires in a burnout competition. Lastly, they lined up and went down the drag strip in a heads up race.
Who will win the competition? Valvoline is leaving that up to you!
