Is There Anyway To Make A ’92 Camaro Worth $468,000?

It is hard to imagine how a third generation could be worth an estimated $468,000 even if it was given the gold plate treatment. Although, the seemingly innocuous red Camaro appeared relatively stock and was not boasting an LSX engine, a substance nearly as pricey as gold made this car an attention getter. According to the Tribune Weekly Chronicle, officers from the US Customs and Border Protection busted the 19-year-old Mexicali resident who was behind the wheel of a cocaine-laden Camaro. When the driver of the 1992 Chevy Camaro attempted to enter the US at the Calexico port of entry his vehicle was selected for further screening. As for what tipped the authorities to subject the Camaro to an extensive search remains unknown, but it proved to be a worthwhile use of man and canine power.

A canine unit was enlisted to aid in the methodical search of the third generation Camaro and or drug mule. Officers found 52-pounds of the white powdery substance hidden inside a specially fabricated metal box located behind the rear bumper. Like the two masterminds behind the $676,000 1980 Camaro, this fellow was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and safely delivered to the Imperial County Jail. With 21 packages of cocaine as evidence the end result of this bust will likely result in a considerable amount of time behind bars. Authorities seized the ‘92 contraband Camaro along with the 52-pounds coke, and the poor little car is likely to be rotting in the impound yard while the coke is being stored in a climate controlled evidence room. Eventually the ’92 will hit the auction block, however it is unlikely that this particular car will bring in a bid anywhere close $468,000.
