According to the CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, PA, Pennsylvania State Troopers attempted to stop an ’89 Chevy Camaro for traffic violations, but instead of experiencing a routine traffic stop Troopers were treated to a 100 miler per hour car chase on 6 different roads and three Harrisburg townships. The Camaro was driven by Christopher Weaver, 26, of Robesonia, PA.
Weaver lost control of the Camaro at an intersection and hit a garbage can and water well in someone’s front yard. Weaver didn’t give up and tried to continue on driving through a nearby field, but finally got stuck, likely because an ’89 Camaro was far too low slung to have any chance at surviving off-road. He then fled the Camaro and tried to elude the Troopers on foot, apparently not realizing that his footprints in the snow would lead the law directly to him in a marshy area. The Troopers simply staked out the marsh area and arrested Weaver on the spot.
Weaver was charged with fleeing and eluding, Reckless driving, and thirteen other charges. No report was given on the condition of the Camaro, but we’ll assume that it’s high-speed chase days are over.
