Goodguys Introduces New Vehicle: Project G/RS ’69 Camaro

For many years the image of Goodguys Rod & Custom Association founder Gary Meadors’ bright yellow ’32 hot rod has graced the association’s logo, bringing company recognition to many generations of rodders. While there is no plans to eliminate the iconic Ford sedan from the Goodguys emblem, the hot rod and custom car gurus have decided its time to add another iconic car to the nameplate and ultimately, the Goodguys garage. But rather than adding another hot rod to the mix, the association has decided to bring in Project G/RS, an all-out pro-touring ‘69 Camaro. Anyone else jumping for joy?

The pro-touring movement has swept the nation and now shows its beautiful face at all kinds of events across the country, including a whole calendar full of Goodguys events. To honor this movement, Goodguys will be adding the Project G/RS ‘69 Camaro to their stable this fall.

The Camaro is currently being built by Bret Voelkel and his team at RideTech. In addition to a full RideTech suspension system, Project G/RS will get a Moser rearend, Forgeline wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich rubber, and Baer brakes.

Power for the Camaro will be provided by a GM LSA engine strapped to a Tremec six-speed transmission and fueled with a unit from Rick’s Tanks. Hudson Rod & Custom will be taking care of designing the interior, using RECARO seats, Dakota Digital gauges and a Vintage Air A/C system. Other goodies will be provided by Rick’s Camaro Parts, Speedway Motors, and American Autowire Harness.

Just like Meador’s yellow hot rod, the Camaro will tour the country promoting the Goodguys association on the road, at driving events and on Goodguys AutoCross courses. With a ground-hugging, G machine design, the Camaro should bring quite the crowd draw and present plenty of competition for even the most seasoned autocrossers.

Look closely and you'll already see the new Project G/RS Camaro peeking out from behind the '32 Ford hot rod in the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association logo.

“The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and my dad’s yellow ’32 Ford sedan are known throughout the world,” said company president Marc Meadors in a recent press release. “Gary’s ’32 will be forever tied to Goodguys and all we do. We wanted to add to that legacy by building a muscle car and adding it to the Goodguys logo and company theme – something that represents the current landscape of hot rodding. Much like my father’s hot rod, this Goodguy-yellow Camaro will be driven hard and shared with cars guys and gals nationwide.”

In addition to its promotional duties, the Camaro will also have a place on the company logo replacing the yellow custom that was used before.

Be sure to stay tuned for when the Goodguys Camaro will make its official reveal and as always, keep rodding.
