GM Unveils First Production ZL1 For Members of Camaro5 and the OCC

Video and images: "TLSTWIN" of Camaro5

It seems we’ve been beating the ZL1 Camaro drum for far too long, and by now we know a lot of might want to beat us over the head with your laptop for such an overindulgence of said pony car. But guess what? Too bad!

Admittedly, we would have to agree with you as the 5th-Gen Camaros are everywhere you look, and they’re already becoming a bit passé, while many of you are already looking forward with great anticipation to the 6th-Gen that’s still a few years away. But after running across some new pictures and a couple of videos of the latest variation of the current Camaro, supplied by Camaro5 member, “TLSTWIN,” we have to say our enthusiasm for the car has been rekindled.

Recently, members of the Camaro5 message board and the Ontario Camaro Club were invited to the official unveiling of the first production ZL1 available to the public at GM’s Oshawa plant in Canada. To top it off, tours of the plant were also given, making the trip to Canada totally worth it! Lead in by a 2002 Camaro SS police car and one of the original camouflaged 2010 Camaro SS test mules from a few years back, the ZL1 makes a roaring appearance while being piloted with a member of C5 behind a wheel and a black Tahoe in tow.

To say that the crowd was enthusiastic would be an understatement, as the Camaro enthusiasts took countless pictures, videos, and gave the car a standing ovation as it made its introduction.  The Canadian announcer on the stage proudly makes its introduction, proclaiming, “I better get this right; The 2012 Camaro Zed-L1!” Of course, that’s how the Canucks (along with the Brits and Aussies) pronounce the letter “z.” We’re not offended, and all is forgiven. But man, does this video want to make us want to run down to the local Chevy dealer and put a deposit down on one of these bad boys!
