The GM Foundation recently donated $50,000 to the Stephen Sill Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This group is devoted to building special “smart houses” specifically for injured U.S. veterans. The GM Foundation joins a recent $126,000 donation from the GM Customer Care and Aftersales Veterans Group, who donated at an event in NYC. Stephen Siller was a NYFD firefighter who lost his life on September 11th.
The GM Foundation was founded in 1976 and has since donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various charities and educational organizations. Their focus is on education, health, and humanity. Funding comes solely from General Motors.
Alan Batey, the Foundation’s president, expressed that offering support to the hero’s of this nation is very important to them. The donation is meant to help injured vets gain stability and safety in a permanent home.
GM is well-known for supporting causes like these, and has a long history of supporting military personnel.
The GM Foundation and GM’s Customer Care and Aftersales Veterans groups are only a few of the several GM groups that support causes for current and transitioning members of the military.
The announcement about the donations were made at the 13th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in NYC earlier this week. During this event, participants were able to retrace the final footsteps of the fallen hero. Since the inception of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation in 2002, the event has raised over $35 million for fallen heros and those injured serving this country.
