For most of us, part of the preparation for a road trip is making sure that our favorite music is along for the ride. After the first couple or three hours of behind-the-wheel discussion have passed, the traffic has fallen away and the miles are beginning to pass with the beat of a metronome, it’s time for some tunes.

So, what is on your most favored playlist? Pioneer Electronics recently commissioned pollster, Harris Interactive, to find out. After checking with nearly 3,000 Americans and asking them, “What are your favorite road trip songs of all time,” the results are in.

1. “On the Road Again,” Willie Nelson
2. “Born to be Wild,” Steppenwolf
3. “Take it Easy,” The Eagles
4. “I Get Around,” The Beach Boys
5. “Highway to Hell,” AC/DC
6. “Free Falling,” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
7. “Riders on the Storm,” The Doors
8. “I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night,” KISS
9. “Wanted: Dead or Alive,” Bon Jovi
10. “Free Bird,” Lynyrd Skynyrd

Harris Interactive pointed out that some strong demographic influences were evident in the results, though. If the survey had been restricted to those in the Northeast, or to males only, Steppenwolf’s cult classic from the movie, Easy Rider, would have come out on top.

For singles between 18 and 34 years old, the hands-down list topper was AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” and some of their other picks never made it into Top Ten territory. Among those most favored were “Paradise City,” from Guns ‘N Roses and 2Pac’s comeback single “California Love.”
