The guys at Nelson Racing Engines (NRE) joined forces with Jerry Covington of Covington Customs and came up with a super clean 1965 Impala powered by Nelson Racing Engine’s crate 572 BBC engine.
We’ve all seen some pretty gaudy looking Impala builds but NRE and Covington did a great job of putting a slight custom touch to the classic lines of this ’65 Impala. We just happened to stumble across this build on YouTube and it was too nice to pass up.
Jerry Covington is well known in the custom cycle world having built custom bikes for half of Hollywood. But don’t be fooled by that, Covington has had his torch on many cars in his day as well. He is respected in the car world for keeping true to the original design of the body with subtle touches of customization to produce one of a kind and unique works of art.
Nelson Racing Engines has been building turn key, high horsepower, super motors since they opened the doors in 1995. This Impala features one of their 572 series crate engines. Tom Nelson and crew selected this turn key solution for the build by virtue of it’s incredible power on pump gas.
What they ended up with was a sharp looking, full sized Chevy stuffed with a modern powerplant that produces 730 hp and 720 ft lbs of torque. The Impala also sports a six-speed transmission, Hotchkis suspension, and American Racing rims to cap off the ride.
