As part of the celebration of Chevrolet’s 100 year anniversary, GM recently released its list of the Top 24 Vehicles from the past century that best represent and personify the spirit of Chevy. The varied list includes everything from the timeless 1932 Chevy Sport Roadster, all the way to the acclaimed 2011 Chevy Volt, and each model has played its role in forming Chevy‘s identity. But, as most performance enthusiasts would agree, there is simply no better car than the Corvette to represent what Chevrolet is all about.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that five bench-mark models of the Corvette made the list. In chronological order, they are:
1. 1953 Corvette: marked the birth of the legend.
2. 1963 Corvette Stingray “Split Window” Coupe
3. 1989 Corvette ZR-1: The “King of the Hill” with the exotic 4-cam LT5.
4. 1997 Corvette Coupe: marked the beginning of the LS1 era.
5. The 2012 Corvette Centennial Edition: gives a nod to Chevy’s racing history, while looking to the future. (It is kind of interesting that the ZR1 wasnt specifically named in this spot, don’t you think?)
In addition to the Corvettes, other performance notables that made the list include the 1969 Camaro, 1970 Chevelle SS, the 1993 Camaro LT-1, and the 2010 Camaro SS. As with any list of “top” anything, there can be plenty of arguments made for models that should have made the list but didn’t. So, lets hear it: What models should have made the list, and what models shouldn’t have been included with such iconic company?
