When it comes to buying a project car, some guys prefer starting with a car that is in decent shape while others prefer something a bit rough around the edges. However, as a recently sold eBay lot proves, come guys choose to go about choosing their project cars a different way-going straight for the mess of reviving a car literally from the dead.
The lot we found on eBay contained a ‘68 Camaro RS being sold with no reserve, something many car enthusiasts would be interested in. However, there was a reason this car was being sold that way. Although the term rust bucket probably wouldn’t quite describe the horrible condition the car was in, at least the car hadn’t been completely reduced to dust.
Being sold without an engine, transmission, steering column, console, rear window or gauges, on top of all the rust present on the car, the Camaro definitely cried for a full restoration. Although the information about the car stated that the front section of the frame was in decent shape, along with the stainless steel trim and trunk floor, one look at the car made us shake our heads.
The good news about the car, however, is that it was being sold in pretty much untouched condition. Found in a barn where it sat from 1980 on, the car, good or bad, was not subject to any body modifications, giving the car at least some hope of being restored to original condition.
After 15 bids were placed, the winning bid of just $1,580 took the Camaro home. While it’s going to take a ton of work to get the car running and in tip-top shape, we have hope that the new owner will diligently work for that end result. After all, with a project like this, you’d have to consider it a labor of love to be taking on such a remarkable amount of work.
