D&P Classic Chevys has made quite a name for themselves by taking vintage Chevrolets and giving them a modern touch, while keeping their vintage feel. Their latest project involves the intermixing of an early 60’s Chevy and the most powerful production engine GM has ever made into one righteous package.
The owner of this 1962 “Bubble Top” Bel Air came to D&P with a clear vision of what he wanted from his car. He was looking for a ground scraping ride with all the amenities of a modern car, and tons of power on tap to prove its more than just a show car. Getting the Bel Air slammed to the ground was a bit more of a project than you might think. Rather than simply installing a set of lowering springs or coilovers, the guys at D&P had to cut out the car’s floorboards to get it as low as possible. Once the fabrication was done, the car was set up on an Art Morrison chassis outfitted with a Ride Tech Air-Ride system to get the car on the ground. The Chevy rolls on a set of one-off Asanti wheels, 20 inches in front, and 22 inches in back.
As impressive as this car is on the outside, things get really interesting once you take a look under the hood – that’s where a complete LS9 crate engine from GM Performance Parts calls home. The 638 HP produced by the LS9 gets channeled through a 4L80 automatic on its way to a Ford 9-inch rear.
Keep an eye out for this Bubble Top, because the owner is a regular on the car show circuit, and we hear he likes to drive the crap out of this thing.
