The pro-touring world is all about improving the performance and handling of your classic muscle car. In this world there is plenty of room for individuality and pro-touring cars can be found that remain rather stock all the way up to the highly modified. Recently a ‘69 Camaro was added to the Mecum Daytime Auction line-up that begs the question if it is merely a pro-touring car or a custom beast. Either way, the car definitely caught our attention.
The Camaro is the creation of Detroit Speed and was built to showcase their way of improving performance for every aspect of the car. The Camaro comes equipped with a dual four-barrel 350cui engine and 700 R4 transmission. The engine is topped off with a B Cool chrome radiator with dual fans. The Camaro also has a Ford 9-inch rear end, 3.73 rear-end gears and Baer Extreme Plus six-piston disc brakes. Custom Detroit Speed components on the Camaro include the front suspension, custom 4-link rear suspension, frame connectors, coil-overs and mini tub kit. The Vintage Air climate control system was put on this car with the help of Detroit Speed’s firewall fill plate and air conditioning plugs.
The custom interior of this Camaro was created with a Detroit Speed dash insert, custom gauges and aluminum center console that includes a billet power window switch. The hand-stitched upholstery matches the red and black exterior paint scheme. This beast of a Camaro sits atop custom Asanti wheels.
While this Camaro definitely has a more custom look than some other pro-touring cars, we’re sure it is a force to be reckoned with on the autocross course.
