Detroit Speed Re-engineers The Chevy II Front Clip

Sometimes, to get what you want, you have to break down a few walls. That’s been the case with those daring to autocross the intrepid little shoebox known as the Chevy II. The very first Novas, though lightweight and nimble, aren’t without their flaws. Being GM’s entry-sized unibody, the first generation Novas are prone to torsional twist and suffered from miserable front engine suspension geometry. That is why so many companies have been diligent in improving upon the platform.

Detroit Speed, Inc. is one such company who seems to have figured out the formula. How? By completely removing and replacing the front clip. Detroit Speed’s front subframe utilizes OEM quality stamped crossmembers and feature tubular upper and lower control arms, coil over shocks and springs, power rack and pinion steering, a splined sway bar and C6 Corvette upright spindles. Moreover, the Detroit Speed Chevy II kit also includes twin bay bars which incorporate integral hood hinge mounts and are hidden away when using Detroit Speed’s inner fenders.

But, what about your Chevy II’s front end? Not to worry. The Detroit Speed Front Frame includes all the points to mount your fenders, hood hinges, front bumper, grille and core support.
