Detroit Speed Engineering (DSE) is on a roll this year in the American Street Car Series (ASCS). Just last month, the DSE team participated in the ASCS Run to the Alamo event, taking home three top-ten event placements with their Test Cars. This month, DSE was once again represented in the ASCS, this time at the Run to the Shore event that took place at New Jersey Motorsports Park. While the DSE team wasn’t able to make the event, long time DSE customer Billy Utley and his DSE-equipped ‘72 Nova did them proud by taking home the win at the New Jersey event.

The Run for the Shore event took place April 6^th through the 8^th in Millville, NJ. Just like other ASCS events this year, Run to the Shore featured an autocross competition, road course and the new speed stop squared competition. This new event takes the traditional speed-stop challenge to the next level by pinning two cars against one another as they drag race down the field, make a full 180-degree turn and come back through a slalom before stopping in the traditional stop box.

Over 50 competitors participated in this year’s Run to the Shore event, but it was Utley that really stood out. He not only placed first in the autocross competition, he also captured the victory in the speed stop squared challenge. After a weekend full of fierce competition, Utley finished off his time at Run to the Shore among the top five on the road course, earning him the overall event win.

Although Utley stole the show, many other DSE customers made it out to the event, including Tom Farrington who took the second-place DSE Contingency slot at the Run to the Alamo event last month with his ’66 Chevelle.

While this was Utley’s first ASCS win for 2012, we look forward to seeing him win a few more as the season progresses. Congratulations goes out to both Utley and DSE for their part in another Run event win.
