Custom Made Factory Replacement GM Fuel Tanks From Rick’s Tanks

rt007When we build our cars, the modifications and aftermarket add-ons can expand from the front bumper to the rear bumper, and everything in between. However, seldom thought about for a custom build is the fuel tank – but fuel tanks need just as much love and attention as the rest of the car. Rick’s Tanks in El Paso, Texas, is putting some love into classic GM fuel tanks – specifically the 1967-’69 Firebird and Camaro, and the 1968-’74 X-body cars, like the Nova, Tempest, and Omega.

rt006Whether the build is sticking with a carburetor or upgrading to EFI, an in-tank pump is always a good decision for fuel pump duty.In-tank pumps tend to run quieter and cooler than their inline counterparts, which are also exposed to the elements that an in-tank pump never sees. However, many classic cars do not accommodate in-tank pumps, and heavy modifications need to be made to a stock tank to install the pump.

Rick’s Tanks now provides owners of the classic vehicles listed above with these stamped steel tanks that not only look great but maintain that factory fit installation. The recessed pump area allows for a pump and sending unit to be installed in the top of the tank, for a snug fit against the trunk floor. The F-body tanks have been modified at the corners for additional exhaust clearance, also.

Rick’s will equip the tank any way that the customer wants it, including dual pumps. The built-in fuel filters mean that no inline filter is necessary, and they’re set up just like the OEM fuel injection systems with the one-direction fuel supply. Even for custom applications, Rick’s Tanks can meet your needs and provide you with the security and comfort of knowing that your tank was built right the first time. Check them out at their website, or visit their Facebook page to see what they’ve been up to lately – even with some of their own projects. They’re not just fabricators – they’re enthusiasts, too!
