With the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association show season underway, autocross competitors are coming out in full force to events to secure their spots for the Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout, set to take place in Scottsdale, Arizona at the end of the season. But it’s not just any autocrosser that will make it to the big leagues. In fact, you’ve got to be a stellar driver behind the wheel of one stellar performance machine to even have a chance at moving on to the final showdown. Lucky for Roger Burnman and the Summit Racing Equipment-sponsored ‘70 “Crusher” Camaro, this unique pair just fit the bill.

Last year, we caught the Crusher Camaro at the Goodguys Colorado Nationals at The Ranch complex in Loveland, Colorado.

Driving the Crusher Camaro, owned by Dave and Karen Leisinger, Burnman secured his spot for the Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout at the 3rd Goodguys Spring Lone Star Nationals held the weekend of March 15th.

There, on one of Goodguys’ most competitive courses, Burnman threw down a lap time of just 57.082 seconds, almost a full second faster than the second fastest driver/car pair, securing the win for the Autocross event as well as his position for the final showdown being held November 16th at Westworld of Scottsdale.

While Burnman’s skills definitely contributed to the team’s accomplishment on the autocross course this month, Crusher’s logistics put the team over the top as far as performance goes. Under Crusher’s hood, you’ll find an 800 hp V-8 built by Warren Johnson. This engine is pushed back into the car over 6 inches, giving the Camaro better weight distribution specifically for autocross racing.

Underneath the car, you’ll find a custom frame made by Burnman’s Lakeside Rods & Rides shop welded to a Detroit Speed and Engineering hydroformed front subframe and a QuadraLink rearend. Ridetech coilovers and 18×12-inch Bosh Mesh wheels wrapped in Falken Azenis rubber on all four corners give the car even more sticking power while Baer brakes keep the Camaro under control in heavy breaking situations.

The Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout will pin 24 of the best autocrossers against each other this November, with 9 Pro Class drivers and 11 Finalists competing for the best times on the Goodguys AutoCross course. The final four slots will be filled by the fastest drivers on the track at the Southwest Nationals on Friday November 15th.

The winner of the Finals Shootout will walk away with bragging rights, $3,000 and an autocross-themed toolbox from Snap-On worth $7,000. They will also receive a set of brand new BF Goodrich tires and have their car honored as one of the Goodguys Top 12 Cars of the Year.

The second, third and fourth place finishers will also receive prizes, with $1,250 going to second place, $500 going to third and $250 going to fourth place. Second through fourth-place finishers will also receive a set of BF Goodrich tires.
