Craig’s List Find: One Super Unique Chevy S-10 Pickup

There’s a lot to be said about custom vehicles. Not only are they cool and unique, more times than not, they’re also show stoppers. But how far is too far when it comes to building a one-of-a-kind car? Well, we’ll let you decide when it comes to this crazy custom Chevy S-10 pickup truck we recently found for sale on Craig’s List.

compresseds10_firetruck_4Up for grabs in Hillsborough County via the Tampa Bay, Florida Craig’s List, this one-off Chevy S-10 is what some might consider one heck of a concept machine. After all, it looks more like an over the top Hot Wheels design than the S-10 “hot rod firetruck” it’s being sold as. But, who are we to judge someone’s artistic expression?

The truck started out as a ’98 S-10. Since then, it’s had it’s frame modified and boxed, been channeled 3-inches and had its front wheels moved 42-inches in front of the cab. Everything from the rear fenders and the truck bed to the fuel tank are all custom fabricated out of .125 aluminum, while the front fenders, dash and center console are hand-formed from .090 aluminum. Up front, the truck’s custom nose is made of fiberglass while the custom grille shines bright in stainless steel.

compresseds10_firetruck_2Now, this truck wouldn’t be nearly as unique as it is without an odd-duck of a power plant pushing it down the road. So a 1941 Seagrave/Pierce Arrow 461ci V12 engine was used, which is fitted with two Rochester Model B carburetors, a custom alternator, dual optical trigger ignition and 24 spark plugs with an amazing 60 feet of wiring.

According to the seller, the engine has all rebuilt internals and boasts a 202 hp rating with 365 ft-lbs of torque on hand.

Backing the V12 is a popular GM 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive. Other defining features of the truck include a Dodge power steering pump, custom radiator with an 8-gallon system capacity, 3600 cfm electric fan, custom 26.5-gallon gas tank, and stainless plumbing and exhaust.

Under the truck is a 2005 GM dually rearend which outfits the truck with standard rear-wheel drive while four-wheel power disc brakes provide the truck with adequate stopping power.

compresseds10_firetruck_3Built as a short-range car show and parade vehicle, the truck is topped off with three coats of Red enamel paint and two coats of clear. The interior follows along in the custom vibe with everything from the steering wheel to the heater being one-off components.

Amazingly, the truck is said to have been completely built from the ground up (except for the paint) by its current owner in a home shop. A full photo record of the build is available upon request.

Certainly one very unique vehicle, there’s no doubt this custom S-10 will get plenty of attention anywhere it goes. And for $18,000, it might just be worth it to have the craziest vehicle at your next local car show.

For more information on the truck, the current owner can be contacted through Craig’s List. All seriously interested buyers are encouraged to set up a time to go out and look at this unique vehicle.
