With pricing just released last week for the 2016 Camaro: we’re very curious to know how Facebook user Jeff Thisted got his hands on what he says, is “the very first production model ’16 Camaro available for sale”. As we’re writing this, the ’16 Camaro has yet to enter production. And as far as we know, production isn’t scheduled until the fourth quarter of this year.
The video we’re referencing to of course, is this video posted by Thisted on his Facebook account last week. While the video is rather short at only 21 seconds long, Thisted claims this specific Camaro is owned by GM Chief Engineer, Al Oppenheiser. He comments that Oppenheiser drove his Camaro to the production specialist meeting which was held last week. He then approached Oppenheiser and introduced himself, asking him if he could take a look at the car.
From what we can tell, this ’16 Camaro is owned by Oppenheiser, however, the car is not a production model. The car has been confirmed to be a CTF (Captive Test Field) model, used for the purpose of testing for GM. We think it’s safe to assume that Thisted jumped the gun and assumed that this ’16 Camaro indeed was the first model available and for sale. We’d still consider him to be lucky, as he’s quite possibly one of the only members of the general public (media excluded) to get this up close and personal with a new Gen 6, especially one this close to the production version.
Stay updated on the 6th generation Camaro news through our Facebook page, as we’ll be reporting info on these cars as oon as it is available.
