Corvette Racing Team Finishes in Top 5 at Long Beach

MG2_0976-640x426 [1] Corvette Racing [2] finished 4th and 5th in the Tequila PatrĂ³n American Le Mans Series [3] at Long Beach, and unofficially shares the top spot in Manufacturer Standings with BMW at 34 points. Both cars faced some struggles that cost them in finishing positions, but Jim Campbell, Chevrolet Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, commended the Corvette Racing team and considered it a good points day.

The fourth-place finish in the GT class went to the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R, driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin. Milner qualified in sixth position, and gained ground to secure the fourth position when the team pitted and changed drivers with just a bit over an hour left in the race. Citing problems with re-attaching the steering wheel and mounting one of the tires, this is where Milner/Gavin lost ground, pulling out pretty much at the back of the pack of pitted racers. Gavin fought his way up to the fifth position, and passed teammate Magnussen in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette with 15 minutes remaining in the race.

The No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R faced some challenges as well, turning an early gain of second position into a final finish of fifth-place. The team of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen suffered with grip issues, and again, Magnussen blames pit strategy for the loss of momentum.

In the end, the Corvette Racing team is still off to a great start for the season with a first place finish at Sebring [6] for the No. 4 car. Stay tuned for Round 3 with the American Le Mans Series Monterey at Laguna Seca [7]on May 9-11th.
