The ’71 Chevrolet Caprice is not known for its good looks or powerful engine. In fact, it probably doesn’t even qualify as a true muscle car in some people’s minds. However, one Caprice is making a name for itself in the NMCA’s Nostalgia Muscle Car class. Thanks to the MSD Ignition company for bringing this unique car to our attention.
The Caprice is powered by a Knieriem 427 small block engine complete with a full MSD system. This includes an 7AL-2 ignition system, Pro-Billet distributor, 8.5 mm wires and HVC coil. This specific Caprice is pulling low 10s in the quarter mile, with a speed of 130 mph, which is very rare for this car model. The driver behind this muscle machine is Andy Warren, who just drove his way to another win at Commerce the weekend of April 16.
The Caprice and Warren are turning out to be quite the team with the win at Commerce being their third. The three wins come from four final-round appearances this season. Warren is a two time champion in the Nostalgia Muscle Car class and we look forward to seeing how far he can take the ‘71 Caprice. Who knows, he may just pull out another championship with this odd drag racing beast.
