The 2011 Camaro Convertible will be the seventh Camaro to pace the Memorial Day racing event. Both Chevrolet Division and the Indianapolis 500 celebrate 100th Anniversaries this year, so the selection is particularly appropriate. This is also the 22nd Chevrolet to lead the pack.

The pace car, and the matching festival cars, feature a Summit White exterior accented with orange stripes – a combination inspired by the design used on the 1969 Camaro Indy pace car. The interior is trimmed in orange leather, with front seat headrests embossed with the Indy 500 logo. The instrument panel trim features extensions of the orange exterior stripes.

Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials announced, at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale classic auto auction, that registered bidders will have the opportunity to purchase the first of 50 Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee cars. These are cars used in the lead-up to, and during the event by officials for non-pace car duties.

Bidding for this commemorative edition pace car will take place on Saturday evening, Jan. 22, during SPEED’s live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson event. All of the Festival Committees cars will be SS convertible models, fitted with the 2SS equipment package, including four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers and hydraulic assist, a competitive/sport mode that enhances on-track performance, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels and performance tires and a heads-up instrument display. Also included is the RS package, which includes HID headlamps and unique tail lamps.

The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 29, 2011, and will feature a 100th Anniversary Pace Car Reunion on May 21-22.
