There have many a lot of great muscle cars to roll off of the assembly line for Chevrolet fans but not many that were convertibles. The 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Convertible was one of these convertible muscle cars that Chevy introduced. There are not many of these Chevelles still around in good shape and even less with the 396 c.i. big block Chevy for power putting out 325 HP through a 4-speed Muncie transmission. However, the following is a great example of such a Chevelle that a guy could pick up for the right price.
This 1966 Chevelle Malibu Convertible underwent a frame-off restoration in 2007 and got all the right stuff to make it appear factory but be able to hit the streets and cruise all night long with no problems. During the restoration this car received a 12 bolt posi-trac rear with 3:55 gears, power disc brakes, and air conditioning all add to the comfort and driveability of the car.
The Chevelle also received a tilt steering wheel, power steering, AM/FM stereo with an IPOD jack, torque thrust II wheel with Goodyear Eagle GTII tires, Flowmaster mufflers, an aluminum intake with Holley carb, and all new stainless steel brake and fuel lines. There just aren’t many of these cars left out there in this shape that offer this kind of comfort and muscle at the same time. The days of seeing vintage Chevy convertible muscle cars in this kind of shape are numbered but somebody still has at least one great example of an era where horsepower meant everything and the gasoline flowed without a serious kick in the wallet.
