It’s not hard to find an impressive pro-touring car. They are everywhere, from shows and cruises to the autocross track. Every once in awhile, however, we come across a pro-touring car that just makes our jaw drop. The ‘67 Chevelle SS we came across is definitely one of those jaw-dropping cars, and you’re in luck, its up for bid at an upcoming Mecum auction.
While some pro-touring enthusiasts choose to keep the original engine in their car, others choose to upgrade it. Originally manufactured with a 396cui engine, the Chevelle now comes equipped with a 540cui, 630hp Merlin engine with aluminum cylinder heads and Holley 600 CFM dual chrome carburetors. This powerhouse is matted to an automatic transmission for smoother shifting. The car also comes with hand crafted moldings, vintage air conditioning, Baer slotted disc brakes and Dakota Digital gauges. The Chevelle has a custom leather and suede interior done by Jeff Phipps and is finished off with custom Triple Black paintwork done by Page Customs- the same company that did all the body work on the car.
We aren’t the only ones that have taken a liking to this amazing pro-touring Chevelle. In fact, it has won many awards including Best of Show awards at the World of Wheels event in Atlanta, NSRA Southeast Nationals in Tampa, and the Super Chevy Southeast show in West Palm Beach. Other awards that this car has received include the People’s Choice award at Chevellebation in Nashville and a Year One Cup finalist designation.
