“They are all used up!” is something you might hear a car enthusiasts say. It’s no joke, they aren’t making new Chevelles, or Bel-Airs anymore. Well, minus the reproduction bodies. But most of our beloved classics, you have to buy one that’s restored or you’re out of luck. Especially when you’re trying to find something more rare, such as a real Super Sport.
While they might not be as plentiful as they were 20 years ago, there are still real deal Super Sport cars out there, just waiting to be restored. However, you might just have to wait until the owner that swears he’s going to fix it up gives up, or passes away.
This lucky guy had just that luck. This SS Chevelle was raced, then put into a pole barn for storage. There it sat for years, waiting for some love. Then the car got pushed outside for a short bit, where it was all but forgotten. The old man that owned the car passed away, and his wife put it up for sale. All his friends that promised to buy it didn’t have the cash. After a lot of tire kickers, this gentleman picked it up and hauled it away.
Even though the car had spent some time outdoors, it seems pretty solid. The original big-block is gone, with a small-block in its place that is blown up. A time card from the drag strip shows at one point this car went down the strip at 13.17 seconds at 106.88 miles per hour. No indication what motor was powering the car at that time.
