The driver of a 5th gen Camaro and his female passenger received serious, but not life-threatening injuries early in the morning Thursday when he allegedly lost control of the car during a street race, crossed a raised median, and impacted a bus stop and a Starbucks on the opposite side of the road.
Per KCRA, police have not yet charged anyone for the Folsom, California crash, which occurred around 2AM on July 31st. Witnesses say that the Camaro and another car pulled out of a nearby parking lot, drove down to an intersection and made a U-turn, then began racing, with speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour.
While eyewitness reports tend to be highly unreliable, especially when it comes to the speed of passing vehicles, the length of the skid marks leading to the site of impact, and the enormous level of damage done to the Camaro are consistent with a very high speed crash. Video footage of the aftermath shows tire carcasses, chunks of wheel rim, and suspension components torn free from the car, and the Camaro itself attained a distinct banana-shaped profile to go with its bright yellow hue.
There’s no word so far on a description of the other vehicle allegedly involved in the incident, or the identity of the driver.
