Looking for a spruce update under the hood, we stumbled across a first generation Chevrolet Chevelle that is truly unique in its own right. Posted by Engine Swap Depot, this Chevelle has been swapped with a twin-turbocharged Northstar V8 motor.
The Northstar engine is considered as General Motors’ most technically complex 90-degree V engine design. What’s more the Northstar engine was first produced in 1991 and ceased production in 2010.
Initially designed to battle against dual overhead cam V8 motors in the late 1980s, General Motors was hoping to capture the market with new engine technology that was equivalent to BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Used in Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Buick applications, the Northstar engine provided good power output despite its complex design.
What we have here is a snazzy looking Chevelle that is stylish and looks fast. Settling on keeping the body in factory form, the shaved door handles, dual exhaust, and gutted interior show this Chevelle is race ready.
With just the single bucket seat and low front valence to vacuum in cold air, this Chevelle is a potential sleeper. It looks quite harmless on the outside but we could imagine the two Schitzer turbochargers attached to the Northstar 4.6-liter V8 engine provide some serious boost.
What are your thoughts on this tastefully swapped Chevelle? Would you swap your old engine for something a bit more updated? Feel free to leave a comment below.
