25.3 Impala SS Drag Radial Car For Sale

The name “Impala” was derived from an antelope found in South Africa and was introduced by General Motors introduced in 1958. The Impala became the most expensive passenger car through the 1960’s while it competed with the likes of the Galaxie and Plymouth Fury. Through its 38 years of production as a rear wheel drive cruiser it went through many transformations, including the introduction of the Caprice, but still maintained its best selling status for full sized cars within the GM lineup. In 1994 Chevrolet started production on a performance model of the Impala, labeled as “SS”, that became a huge hit with GM enthusiasts. The full-sized cruiser quickly became popular gear heads to compete with Mustangs and Camaros and led to some pretty insane drag racing- based cars in the process. The new “SS” was the first such Impala model to carry that namesake since 1969.

The full-sized cruiser quickly became popular gear heads to compete with Mustangs and Camaros and led to some pretty insane drag racing- based cars in the process. This one that was discovered in the Yellow Bullet Classifieds is a 25.3 chassis equipped SS that was built to take on the heavy hitters in Drag Radial and Limited Street. The Impala was built by David Lemmonds Race Cars in Somerville, Alabama but as many projects go, the owner lost interest and has decided to sell it at a very reasonable price. The car is being sold as-is with all of the body panels, rack, spindle mount front wheels and 14-inch double-beadlock rear wheels.

The body is described as “excellent condition”, as is the glass. A fiberglass deck lid and dash pad goes with the car. According to the seller, the car still needs the floor installed, the rear suspension completed, the front end needs to be mounted, the motor, mid-plate, and transmission mounts need to be made, and the deck lid needs to be mounted.

The photo shown above were taken the day the car was purchased, and as such, aren’t representative of the current status of the project. For more up-to-date images, click here.

Been looking for that unique piece to set you apart from the crowd of Mustangs at the drag strip? Then look no further because there’s only a little but of work left to be done to make this Impala one of the baddest cars in the country. Just imagine the looks you would get with this big bodied beast laying down mid four-second passes at 170 plus mph.
