1968 Chevy Impala is Stolen in Idaho and Ends up in London?!?

1968 Chevy Impala smashedThroughout history there have been plenty of unsolved mysteries – D.B. Cooper’s Hijacking, the Zodiac Killer, and this 1968 Chevy Impala which was stolen from Nampa, Idaho. One of those mysteries has finally been solved – the Impala was recently found 4,800 miles away in London.

1968 Chevy Impala london impoundThe car was found last month, abandoned on the side of the road with its front end smashed in. The London Police where stunned to find Idaho plates on the car when they impounded it. They posted on Facebook that the owner has 10 Days to claim the vehicle or it would be turned into soup cans. Thankfully the owner, Carol Cameron, found the post and responded with proof that the Impala belonged to her. She is working with local Canyon County police, who in turn are working with the Metro Police in London to bring her ride home.

International Car Theft Ring?

Metro Police initially thought that the car was stolen by joyriders and was crashed before being abandoned on the side of the road. However, the fact that the car was taken from Idaho and found in London raises some questions. How did it get there, for one? Two, is there a large international car theft ring in operation that is operating in Fly Over Country? It’s interesting to note the car was Green in Cameron’s pictures but it has since been painted white.

Chevy Impala American Legend

The 1968 Chevy Impala was a landmark year featuring a new face lift and rear triple “horseshoe” shaped taillights. The Impala was powered by a variety of mills including the 250 ci inline-six, a 307 ci, the famous 350, and big blocks such as a 396. These mills were backed by a three on the floor, a four speed Muncie, or a Powerglide automatic.

While back in the day the Impala wasn’t the fastest musclecar when compared to the Chevelle or the GTO, but it still had plenty of pep in its step. These cars are a rare site on the road today and it’s nice to see one living the American Dream. Hopefully, Cameron can get her ride back, fixed up and out cruising again. But then there’s shipping to consider. Would you pay to have your car shipped back or cut your losses at this point?
