Modern steering mechanisms are something we often take for granted, but many muscle cars missed out on rack & pinion steering. This led to many hot rodders yanking rack & pinion systems from cars such as the Mustang II. While these could be made to fit, it often required a lot of cutting and welding, and sometimes it even affected the turning radius.
Having heard the cry from enthusiasts for a simpler solution, Flaming River built its bolt-in cradle rack & pinion kit in both manual and power flavors for a wide variety of vehicles. The rack & pinion system sits inside a vehicle-specific cradle that drops in the place of existing steering systems. These bolt-in kits integrate with the existing chassis and steering components, replacing the idler arm and steering box and dropping into place, not cutting or welding required.
This lets us muscle car guys drop a modern rack & pinion system that is lighter and more responsive without having to hack up our cars. Not only do they bolt in to the right location, but they add support independently of the suspension. These kits are the simple solution to the lack of modern steering components.
